It was all happening there during the decade of the 1930s

In Germany, Adolf Hitler became absolute leader and put on a spectacular Olympic display, during which a new generation of German Navy commanders were commissioned as - Olympians.

Edward Swanson’s story ties all these events together and takes the reader from the sinking of a German U-boat detected by airborne radar, through the financial jungle of the City of London and the forests of Bohemia to the golden city of Prague and the terror of a Holocaust camp of death.

Adolf Hitler’s ambitions did not stop at the frontier – he sought World domination he needed someone with international experience. Frederick Clarridge needed a job when he was invited to join the NSDAP (the National Socialist Party – the Nazis). It was not possible for a foreigner to join the party as a full member (even Adolf Hitler, who was born across the Austrian frontier, had had to prove his Germanic roots) but in those times the Fuhrer’s word was law and what the Fuhrer wanted – happened.

Heinrich Himmler’s Secret Police (Geheime Staatspolizei – GESTAPO) infiltrated every aspect of life in 1930s Germany. As Reichsfuhrer (National Leader) of the Schutzstaffel (Protection Squad – the SS), Himmler was in direct command of National Security and Policing of the State – a man with unlimited power in Germany.

In 1929 Frederick escaped from his failing stock market scam in Istanbul on the World’s first airmail service to Germany via Belgrade. A crescendo of “Zieg - Heils” at a Nuremberg Nazi rally recruited him to Heinrich Himmler’s team and he became a traitor to his own country, helping to spread the Nazi gospel of evil beyond the frontiers of Germany.

Perhaps he ought to have died on the scaffold with William Joyce, Lord Haw-Haw, who was hanged in 1946 for broadcasting Nazi propaganda, but he survived to raise two generations in England and to leave his memoir hidden on a computer hard drive in 1991 where it remained unread for a decade.
